Your organization requires all releases to pass user acceptance testing (UAT) before they are deployed to production. The only people who do the UAT testing are subject matter experts (SMEs) external to the Scrum Team. To save time, it is suggested that the UAT is done at the end of each release cycle (i.e. only in the last Sprint before each release)

The Product Owner would like your feedback. How do you respond?

A. Help them understand that the state of the increment won’t be transparent and the feedback loop will be too long if UAT is only done at this time. Predictability will reduce and risk will arise
B. Agree. It will be easier to schedule the SME’s time and also prevent the Developers from being disrupted with change requests
C. Disagree. The Scrum team must have full-time commitment from SMEs in order to optimize the team’s productivity
D. Tell them it will depend on the Scrum Team’s Definition of “Done”

Correct Answer: A

If UAT is required to release the increment to the user, then it must be part of the Definition of “Done” and be carried out each Sprint. Thi may not be easy and may require change to ways of working and collaboration with SMEs.
